Our lovely school

Standing on the top of the Gesar mountain one can see a little red spot, which is our school, Seng Girls Vocational Training School. People have said our school looks like a monastery, because in our Tibetan areas, most of the temples and monasteries are painted red. Our school’s buildings are all painted red in the middle of October this year, but they weren’t always red.

200 women receive much needed medical help

Over 200 women and 80 men have participated in the program in Kardotso's township, receiving health checks, medicines and personal hygiene products. Change starts with information, knowledge is the first line of defense. Women like Kardotso, will now be able to share this knowledge with her daughter as she grows up.

Yunnan Village Development Project through Zhang’s Eyes

Zhang is 5 years’ old. His father is a project participant of the Captivating/Heifer Village Development Program. When Dad and Mom are both busy during the sugarcane planting and harvesting season, Zhang is left to take care of his grandpa. Zhang loves his grandpa but he feels lonely because his parents have to leave home to find work. He lives in a remote, rural area where there is no kindergarten or school. Zhang will be ready to begin school in 2 years but will need to leave his village and board at his new school.

Chickens for Renu - Microfinance taking shape in Nepal

Renu is 24 years of age and is unmarried. She lived an idle life and was found to be at high-risk of being trafficked. With the help and training from the My Business My Freedom program (a Captivating and 3AN joint project), Renu has now started a mini poultry business. She had no understanding about how to run a business or why it was important for her to be self-sufficient. The group Renu is part of has helped her with learning so much about the risks of human trafficking, how to manage a business, social issues and saving money to invest in her future. Now she has 20 chicken as her poultry farm.

Sangje was born to a poor family. She was not able to go to school but had to ‘grow up’ quickly and take care of her injured father and the daily household chores while her mother had to go out and find some work.

100 Runners at Midnight

For the 9th year running, Greg Shultheis and a wonderful team of volunteers held the annual MIDNIGHT CHARITY RACE in Shenzhen, China. 100 runners along with generous sponsors raised a total of RMB239,000 (US$36,000) in support of the work of Captivating in China through the Shenzhen Charity Federation CAPTIVATING Fund.

Kalpana* is now safe

Kalpana [*name changed] is 19 years. Kaplana buried both her parents while she was still in grade 9. She wanted to continue her schooling but her circumstances hindered her path to education and as is the tradition in Nepal, Kaplana had an arranged marriage by her sister however her husband was an abusive alcoholic. She was ready to take her own life until she met a man who understood her hardships and promised that he could provide her with a job in India.

Saturday, October 14 once again saw guests fill the grand ballroom of the Futian Shangri-la, Shenzhen China in support of the Annual Captivating Charity Auction – an event run in partnership with the Shenzhen Charity Federation. The evening was amazing – possibly our best yet.
