Fund a GREENHOUSE and keep kids in school

Life in rural Qinghai is hard. And the grinding poverty is deepest for single moms who are on their own, taking care of their children and often elderly parents as well.

Life in rural Qinghai is hard. And the grinding poverty is deepest for single moms who are on their own, taking care of their children and often elderly parents as well.
Pema and her mother live in desperate poverty in rural Qinghai. And like thousands of other 13-year-old girls just like her, she is at risk of becoming pregnant as a teenager, exposed to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS or - even worse - one day, she might simply disappear.
This mama and her piglet are a special kind of wonderful. They’re being raised by a single mom and her family in a tiny village in one of the remotest parts of rural Qinghai, where the winters are long and cold and grinding poverty is an ever-present reality.
Chameli [name changed] is 29 years of age and has two children aged 3 and 5. Chameli was abandoned by her husband and his family. She move to Pokhara in hopes of being able to provide for her two children. Single mothers with no job and no family support are easy targets for traffickers. Chameli heard about the Captivating / 3AN My Business-My Freedom program. This life changing program equips women with skills and opportunities to become self-sustainable - helping to prevent her and her children from becoming victims of human trafficking. Chameli joined one of the My Business-My Freedom groups in her community.
53 girls have completed their first year back in school thanks to the incredible support of our global Captivating sponsorship family.
We are excited to share with you the amazing results now we are almost at the end of our global STOP THE TRAFFICK 5k event.
My name is Kaien Ma, and I graduated from university in 2015, majoring in nutrition.
In August, 2016 I came to Qinghai Seng Girls School. Since then I have been volunteering as the school's English teacher, teaching students from grade three to six.
Thanks to the ongoing and generous support of GPA Global, our 2017 aim of funding the construction of greenhouses for 200 families is well on the way. As of today, 96 families are already enjoying produce from their greenhouses (see pictures). A further 43 families will finish construction their greenhouses in a matter of weeks.
This month [July 2017], three girls from Project Eden who have been studying at the School of Electronics and Technology of Dongguan, have finished all their school-based courses and will be starting a one-year internship after this summer on-track to graduate in June 2018. Through the Captivating Project Eden schooling program, we have been thrilled to see their growth and development over the years thanks to lots of hard work by them, as well as amazing support from the team at Project Eden. Our thanks also to their dedicated sponsors and supporters, and of course Dockpo and the SGVTS team where the girls first got their chance at a new life several years ago now. We hope you enjoy Dechen's story:
Children's Day is the 1st of June each year and is dedicated to raising awareness about children's rights and well being. At Captivating, EVERY DAY is Children's Day! Every day of year we are focused on making the world brighter for children. Together, we are reaching out for a brighter future for girls who need our help. Seng Girls Vocational Training School is one such place where girls live, love, learn and grow.
