Dec 24th is the launch date of our next Pigs For Poverty program with 70 families (mostly single moms) starting their own piglet-breeding program. In fact, over the next 6 months in excess of 100 families will be recipients of this program thanks to support from individual pig donors throughout the world, the Shenzhen Captivating Charity Auction, and matching donation from Captivating's Chairman, Dean Beveridge. Once progressed through it's first 1 year cycle, this program will transition all of these families well above the poverty line. Great news.

Abhaya [name changed] is 17. She had to drop school after grade 8 because her family was too poor. Her father worked but spent all his wages on liquor, leaving nothing for the family. Abhaya used to work in a hotel with her mother. Abhaya’s father always made problems at home by shouting at her and beating her mother. So Abhaya left her home to start a new life.

223 women have just received vital information about health and hygiene in remote Western China. Each woman also received medicine and hygiene products along with a medical checkup which, in some cases, was their very first medical checkup. This is one of ten locations where Captivating is supporting Qinghai registered Shamtse Charity implement the Captivating Healthy Village Program - a program that will bring health education and support to 3,500 women and their families.

Captivating’s inaugural Santa Run was a truly festive spectacle. 342 runners and 65 volunteers, donned red shirts, hats and Santa suits to run or walk the 6km or 3km around the new Shenzhen Bay walkway. We were overwhelmed by the response from the community, from runners to volunteers, and it was truly enjoyed by participants and spectators alike!

133 Children then got to meet Santa and received gifts, kindly donated by Gold Sponsor ZURU, while listening to carols sung by the truly amazing Freedom:61. It was a wonderful way to start the holiday season.

Sakhi [name changed] was a bright, young college student. She was offered a job by one of her friends who is a journalist. They arranged to meet at a local hotel. They were close friends and Sakhi was grateful to have someone who was watching out for her.

25 university level students from rural, poor families in Western China, participated in the 2017 PCH Capacity-Building Leadership program. Their families have already sacrificed so much to get them to university and are quite possibly in debt for the rest of their lives.

A street drama on the topic of "Human Trafficking and my role" was presented in one of the Captivating funded regions in Nepal, where more than one hundred people attended. A team of 14 members were involved in the drama in which students, villagers, local people acted.

Maju [name changed] gave birth to a little baby however this baby was not her husband’s and so she sold her newly born baby for just Rs.5,000 [US$47]. With this money, Maju left her village and moved to the city to find work. The baby was finally brought to the attention of local authorities and our Nepal partner who found out the baby had been sold multiple times. This precious little baby is now safe with a family who will love and protect the future of this child.
