62 girls in our second cohort of Vocational School Scholarship Program graduates, completed their courses in July 2020. Most of these girls were only able to go to school up to grade 9, with many dropping out even earlier. The key reasons being financial difficulty, prejudice on the part of their parents not valuing education for girls, and varying family circumstances. Their dreams of a career and independence were gone. But thanks to the Vocational School Scholarship program, dreams are coming true again. Luma is one of our graduating girls and she shares her story.

Since schools in the Philippines have shifted mostly to online classes and large gatherings are still prohibited, our partner Honor 1000 found an alternative to continue reaching out to students and parents and raise awareness on human trafficking and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) despite the pandemic.

Our partner, 3 Angels Nepal, saw the crucial role of transport workers in Nepal in combating human trafficking. Knowingly or unknowingly, they could be transporting potential trafficking victims across the border.

Irene recently joined the Microfinance project. Her small business is selling shoes, clothes, and cosmetics. Because of the pandemic, she was forced to stop taking orders because the businesses selling non-essential goods were banned to operate.

Aside from interception and rescue efforts, our partner 3 Angels Nepal also run Women's Safe Haven which provides shelter and support for victims of trafficking. Depending on their needs, women/girls stay in the shelter for 20 days to 12 months, until they are ready for the next phase of their lives.
