Why sustainability is ALWAYS the best way forward for poor villages

(by Andrew Colquhoun – Captivating Co-founder & CEO)

12 Stones – A Documentary About The Cornerstones of Heifer’s Work Around the World from Heifer International on Vimeo.

Helping to address the needs of poor families in remote villages is never an easy thing. Welfare handouts are usually the first (and easiest) thing people think to do – clothing, food, shelter.  However, there are usually no long-term benefits to these solutions, and once you leave the underlying issues still exist.  That’s why sustainable solutions are the better path to follow – but correct solutions are not so easy to find and almost always quite difficult to implement successfully.

Our work in partnership with HEIFER INTERNATIONAL since 2012 has convinced us there is certainly a better way.  But when you come across a wonderful solution that works, it can be quite difficult succinctly explaining it to others.  SO, I was thrilled to find this video today.  This is a MUST WATCH video for anyone interested in making a sustainable impact in the world.

If you’re one of the eighty generous people financially supporting Captivating’s joint program with Heifer China and local governments in Guizhou Province (a project that started in 2012 and will benefit 450 families by 2017), then this video will help you understand more about the impact your program is making.  Although this video is focused on a NEPAL village, the impact is just the same in all villages where we implement.  It’s a 4 minute video, but please do persist through to the end where you can see how proud these villagers are when they start seeing their futures can have real hope, financial security, and that their children can indeed finish school and “reach out for a better tomorrow“.

At Captivating, we are so proud of our association with Heifer China, and the work and support the villagers of Kaili county receive from their local governments in support of this program.  To our wonderful donors – thank you for standing behind this program since it started in 2012.  We look forward to giving you a “donor-only” project update shortly.  As we move into the final stage of this program, we are excited to know that so many families are believing in a more vibrant tomorrow.  Please enjoy this video and share it to others. We can all absolutely make a difference to struggling families in the world.

SUSTAINABILITY is ALWAYS the best way forward.
