The fun of holiday time

by Cyndi Gummin (Eden)

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! Our students are back in school today after having a month off, and we are amazed to look back to see how much happened over the last several weeks, in spite of the unusually cold and rainy weather.

This holiday is always an extra-busy time for us at Eden, because teenagers can only handle so much “sleeping in” before they get bored and restless. Thankfully, we had lots of help this year providing activities for them from an array of friends and volunteers who came and went over the holidays. Various specialties were shared with our students; classes in English, calligraphy, drawing, painting the galaxy and hands-on science. A trip was made to a hotel buffet and a class in making “tang yuan” (sweet rice-balls) was sponsored by Tang-La in Dongguan. Thank you Tang-La for this fun experience. A trip to the zoo in Guangzhou made for a day of fun and adventure. When the weather was good we enjoyed lots of local hiking and playing basketball.

Holiday CollageOur many thanks to everyone who came and brightened this Chinese New Year for all of us!
