Qujiangtso is a 34 year old single mother who has just started the 2019 Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women. She lives in a nomadic tent in remote Qinghai, China, with her two children. She has never been to school but understands the value of education. She wants to give her children a good education but because of her lack of education and skills, is unable to find a stable job.
With the help of this program, Qujiangtso is determined to learn as much as she can. Every day, in order to attend the training on time, she gets up at 3 in the morning to finish all the work at home; milking, butter beating and cream residue, and then rides a motorcycle for 1.5 hours to the training location.
After the training, she rushes back to her nomadic tent and does the evening milking and other household chores until midnight everyday. The program has been going for 2 months now and she has not missed a single day.
“I have never been to school so I didn’t know numbers. I learned numbers one by one from our teacher. Now I can measure and cut but it’s really difficult for me to take notes because I can’t read or write.” Qujiangtso continues with a confident smile, “Since my childhood, I like to make clothes, and I am very grateful for this opportunity to learn such a valuable skill. If I learn in general, I can make clothes for my family in the future, which saves a lot of money. If I learn well, I can make a living with sewing. I will continue to practice numbers and continue learning to read and write.”
Qujiangtso will graduate from the training program in October along with 29 other women aged between 20 to 37. Thank you to Husky Energy for fully funding this life changing program.
