Kaplana and her husband were poor but they were happy. One day she met Rata who promised her a good job that would give her the opportunity to turn her life around. She didn’t tell her husband but left one morning to begin her journey to break their poverty. Her journey took her to the Nepal/India border where she was questioned about her travels by a Captivating funded 3 Angels Nepal monitoring station.
The staff noticed signs that she was in the process of being trafficked. She was carrying a medicine bag, beaten rice and thread. Traffickers use this to identify the victim when they arrive. During the interview, it was discovered that Kalpana was promised a good job in Kuwait and she would fly out of New Delhi instead of Kathmandu. Kaplana was asked to pay 80,000 Rupees and spent a few days in a hotel with two other women. Her husband was called and the dangers of human trafficking were explained to both of them. Kalpana and her husband then realized she was being trafficked.
Through the help provided by our partners, a court case was filed against three women. It was discovered that these three women have been involved in trafficking girls and women for several years. They are still in police custody for further investigation.
