Second village gets a Husky Clean Water Solution

Following the successful implementation of the Husky Energy Shangga Village Clean Water Project (refer to our previous BLOG story, August 2014) Husky has funded yet another successful project.

All 36 families of Rigmo Village (a remote mountainous village in Qinghai) have had their lives changed as a result. For years these families have had to walk over four kilometres to collect water.  A bucket would take up to 10 minutes to fill, and children would often miss out on school because they needed to collect water for their families.  Health issues would persist due to inadequate water consumption and drinking unclean water.

Rigmo (6)This reality was about to change:  Construction began in March 2015 on a new system bringing fresh and filtered water directly to the village from two spring collection points. The villagers were very excited to help, with young and old putting in long hours moving stones and digging ditches to assist construction engineers and experts. Then it happened. On a very special day in May, the villagers – adults and children, the young and the old – celebrated as they watched fresh, clean water flow from three outlet points spread throughout the village.  Water was piped to the village thanks to an ingenious rock filtering and pumping system.  Today, 36 families are retrieving fresh clean water from a tap within a few metres of their homes – enough water for cooking, drinking and washing, as well as the potential to grow vegetables and fruit trees. Life has taken a special step forward for this village.

On behalf of both Shangga and Rigmo villages, their children and families, two primary schools, two village committees, and on behalf of all of us at Captivating International and our Qinghai-based implementing partners, we extend a very thankful hand of friendship to all at Husky for making this possible.   Together, we have brought hope of a better tomorrow to over 300 children and their extended families.
