The original objective of the Kaili Village Development program was to have 450 families moving sustainably towards a poverty free future by December 2017. At time of writing, 300 families are in the program and progressing well. In fact, 85% of these families have now repaid their Captivating loans to Heifer China.

Saturday, October 22 once again saw guests filling the grand ballroom of the Futian Shangri-la, Shenzhen China, in support of the Annual Captivating Charity Auction. The event, now in its 8th year, was this year run in partnership with the Shenzhen Charity Federation – a fantastic partnership that will continue into the future. The evening was amazing – our best yet. The results were worth it.

The construction of 6 incredibly large greenhouses, generously funded by Green Packaging ASIA, has just been completed in Xunhua & Guide Counties, Western China. Many families in these villages profiled as extremely poor and have struggled to afford to send their children to school. In total, these 6 greenhouses have benefited 84 families with over 120 children.

Shortly after the school year ends in mid-July, our students head home for a short summer break. It’s a little teary, because we grow to love each of them. We miss each of the girls dearly and count down the days until we see them again.

Tso Shong Kindergarten is located in a very remote region in Western China. The villagers here mainly live by farming. Very little traffic enters this village which has created isolation for these families. Their income is not enough to cover daily life expenses such as food, clothes and oil to burn. Medical care and education is very expensive...

Lijia Village Primary School has 40 children attending. Most of these children have parents who are illiterate and are very poor and do not understand the importance of education.
