Husky Energy team up with Captivating to solve a Water Crisis – Western China

Ask any villager in remote mountainous parts of Qinghai what their key need is – they will always answer “access to water”. Health problems, dehydration issues, children missing school to fetch water, limited ability to grow food – it’s a big issue that stands in the way of real progress. For over two years 92 families of a remote village have been waiting and hoping for a solution. Now, 600 people, including the local school who rely on water being fetched by teachers and students from several kms away, are living with the realization that this problem is about to be solved.

Husky Energy, in partnership with Captivating, is fully sponsoring this project which will connect this remote village to the nearest water supply. Called the HUSKY ENERGY SHAANGA VILLAGE CLEAN WATER PROJECT, all village families and their children will benefit through improved health, extended time in schools for the kids, better hygiene practices through regular washing, and the ability to plant income producing crops.

Most of the labor of this project is provided by the village families themselves as their contribution to the project. First stage will be the families and their children digging over 4 kms of 6 foot deep trenches for the water pipe to be laid (as much as possible at least before winter comes), followed by the construction work of laying the pipe and connecting to the water sources.

Our huge thanks to Husky Energy for making all of this possible. Tonight, over 600 parents and their children sleep with smiles on their faces. Tomorrow brings hope of a better future.
