We are excited to share with you the amazing results now we are almost at the end of our global STOP THE TRAFFICK 5k event.
The new 3AN/Captivating program called My Business-My Freedom has launched in Pokhara, Nepal. We are so excited to share with you that 66 women have, so far, begun the process to starting their own business. This will provide a steady income for these women and give them security to one day become truly independent and self-sustainable. Within 12 months, over 200 women will be part of this life-changing program.
Kyrah* is 28 years of age. She survived the earthquake in 2015 with her 2 children but has struggled to find work to support her children and rebuild their lives. A neighbor approached Kyrah one day stating that he was an agent who found jobs for people in Israel. Kyrah was filled with hope that she would be able to secure a well paying job so her children could have a future. All she needed to do was cross the border into India where her visa would be processed and then fly off to Israel.
1,675 families were visited throughout Captivating funded regions in Nepal during the January β March quarter by staff from our partners 3 Angels Nepal. These families are mostly from poor areas who are easy targets for exploitation and trafficking.
This is reason to celebrate! 562 girls are now safe! Between the October β December 2016 quarter, these girls were all intercepted from Captivating funded border stations in Nepal, in the act of being trafficked out of Nepal. 562 girls now have a future of freedom and understand the dangers of human trafficking and the lies and deception used by traffickers.
"One girl can make a difference - but together we can change our world"
January is Human Trafficking Awareness month. Today, there are between 20-30 million people enslaved in the world - more than at any time in human history. It might be difficult for you to believe that trafficking and slavery still exists. It is real, it is happening and it affects the lives of millions of people across the world.
Thank you to all those who participated in the STOP the Traffick 5k in September this year. The funds raised have helped support βthe work or our two amazing partners in Nepal - Tiny Hands and 3 Angels Nepal. β
