Nayu Village is 115km away from the nearest city. Nayu is beautiful but very remote. Most of the villagers who live in Nayu make their living from the land. The family of Liu Xuelan is no exception.
At Captivating, we love it when whole communities get excited about helping other communities. The teachers, students and families of QSI Shenzhen have done just that. With creative fundraising ideas and a lot of community spirit, QSI students and staff were able to raise RMB12,000 (US$1,700). These funds will enable us to bring hope to impoverished families in Western China through Greenhouses.
84 families are kept very busy these days thanks to Green Packaging Asia because of the new greenhouses built in their villages. Growing vegetables is now a whole lot easier and it’s wonderful to see villages full of happy families and children back in school.
One solution that Captivating have brought to these families is SHEEP. 30 of the poorest families have been selected
and given the loan of 5 sheep.
The original objective of the Kaili Village Development program was to have 450 families moving sustainably towards a poverty free future by December 2017. At time of writing, 300 families are in the program and progressing well. In fact, 85% of these families have now repaid their Captivating loans to Heifer China.
The construction of 6 incredibly large greenhouses, generously funded by Green Packaging ASIA, has just been completed in Xunhua & Guide Counties, Western China. Many families in these villages profiled as extremely poor and have struggled to afford to send their children to school. In total, these 6 greenhouses have benefited 84 families with over 120 children.
