Captivating Village Program Expands with 10 New Learning Centers

We are happy to announce that we have started 10 Alternative Learning Program Centers in a new municipality for our Captivating Village Program in Nepal. This means that we are now supporting an additional 241 girls in CVP, bringing our total support to 683 CVP girls.

The project team also conducted an awareness session with the parents to discuss the importance of girl’s education and how it can empower girls in the long run. Most of these parents come from marginalized communities with meager incomes and rigid socio-cultural traditions that treat girls and women as second-class citizens. Most importantly, the project team realized that a complex interplay of social, economic, and cultural factors has become the reason behind the restriction of girls from attaining and completing their schooling.

The project team found that when parents/guardians are made aware of the negative consequences of their decisions (like getting their daughter married early, restricting girls from attending school in case of financial burden, and expecting girls to stay home simply doing house chores at a young age), they realize that even their daughters deserve to live a life that they want. Parents also have to support their girls and encourage them to become independent. Because of this realization, the parents gladly obliged to enroll their girls in the ALP Center.

The CVP girls were happy to listen to their parents’ commitment to supporting them and said that CVP had provided them with a second opportunity. Now, it is their responsibility to benefit and make the most out of it.
