Bringing Hope and Change to Lhamo

Lhamo is one of the current trainees at the My First Job Program. Although she admits that she learns at a relatively slower pace than the rest of the women, she is determined on improving herself. One of our staff, Francine, went to visit and chat with her to see how she’s doing in the program.

“I never went to school. I couldn’t read so I couldn’t understand all the handouts that the teacher prepares. I though it was impossible for me to learn at the beginning. Fortunately, the teachers create ways to help us understand better – by recording, taking pictures, and memorizing recipes. Now, I have mastered three dishes: Tiger Pepper, Fried Cauliflower, and Fried Wheat Dish.”

Lhamo has a 13-year old son and a younger daughter with special needs. Whenever she’s away for training, her son looks after his sister at home. She foresees that she might have to take some leave once the new semester starts to take care of her daughter.

Despite these challenges, she remains hopeful that she’ll continue to learn and eventually find a good and stable job to be able to support her family better.

Thank you to Zuru and our partners for sponsoring women like Lhamo. Our work together brings gradual but significant and long-lasting impact in these women’s lives.
