OSAEC? What’s That? Spreading The Word To 100 People

We recently shared Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) prevention materials to 100 individuals near our Microfinance Program office.

One of the parents who received one of our Online Sexual Exploitation against Children (OSEC) information booklets, noticed particular signs in her husband’s niece. So she sat down with her and asked, “Are you ok?”. The girl opened up about the abuse that had been happening for the past year by her older siblings and cousins. After finding out more details, her parents were made aware and further action was taken to remove the child from the abusive situation.
Sometimes, all it takes is for someone to ask a child if they are safe. The outcome for this young girl has been life changing. Even though lockdowns are still in place for most of the Philippines, encouraging adults to watch out for signs and to have conversations with the children in their sphere of influence, is a very important step in keeping vulnerable children in the Philippines safe from online sexual exploitation and abuse.
