An Eventful Evening Meal at SGVTS

“Tonight is meat buns night.”

The students had not eaten meat buns for a long time, and so the teachers and students were very enthusiastic and had come to the kitchen to help. For the cabbage and beef stuffing for the buns, everyone started to wash and cut vegetables. Meat bought from a shop near the school was also prepared.

“We only need to cut cabbage and green onions. When the green onions were cut, many students shed tears because of the onion sting.” The teacher jokingly told the students that they were moved to tears because they have buns to eat that night, causing everyone to burst into laughter.

We put the cabbage, green onions, and meat on a large plate, and then the chef added a little bit of spices and started to wrap. Some of the students make buns very well, while others’ buns looked very funny. Some students taught the teachers who have never made buns before. That night, the students who made the buns became the ‘teachers’.

Everyone chatted while wrapping the buns. “We made more than 600 buns and spent an hour or so making them together. We started to steam buns, and after half an hour, the buns were cooked.” The students smelled the aroma of the buns and entered the canteen excited for the evening meal. The steaming buns came out of the pots and everyone enjoyed eating them together.

“We are like a big family here at The Seng Girls Vocational Training School (SGVTS). We love doing everything together.”

This story was shared by the girls at SGVTS. We are grateful to all partners and sponsors who help us continue to provide a caring and loving home and family to these girls.
