Although the winds are howling outside most days, and the temperature spends most of its life below freezing, life at 4,200 mtrs (14,000 feet) stills feels sweet for the Seng Girls Vocational Training School and Home. 2014 marks another year of wonder for Dockpo (the founder of the home) and his team who 9 years ago started the SGVTS adventure. Bringing hope and a chance to 40 disadvantaged girls from remote Sichuan and Qinghai in those early years, today Dockpo and his team at LOVEQTRA along with CAPTIVATING INTERNATIONAL and other donors, care for 130 girls. 105 girls reside at the home in remote Qinghai where they are being schooled (many for the first time) up to Grade 6. From there, efforts are made to find educational and vocational training opportunities in cities spread across China. At this present time, 33 girls reside in various locations around China – still supported by Dockpo, LOVEQTRA, Captivating, and a growing number of individual donors.
One of the aims in 2014 is to see every girl who finishes Grade 6 in Qinghai move into something else that progresses her towards independence and the ability to make her own choices. This year, 12 girls will complete Grade 6, so we have an exciting year ahead. As these 12 girls leave the home, they will be quickly replaced with 12 more girls from remote disadvantaged situations who are just waiting for their chance to shine.
