Human Trafficking Prevention Through Farming Initiatives

Human trafficking is a grave human rights violation impacting millions globally, often fueled by economic hardship, limited opportunities, and social vulnerabilities. Women and girls are disproportionately affected in many communities in Nepal and we are making multiple efforts to reduce the likelihood of this crime through interception, education, microfinancing, and livelihood training initiatives.

As part of Captivating’s prevention work, we conduct awareness and specialized training sessions in high-risk areas. Recently, our team held sessions on vegetable farming and animal husbandry, which aim to empower women within Nepali communities through economic stability. They were trained to breed and manage animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry. By engaging women in animal husbandry, we are helping them realize their potential and that they are capable of moving forward in life despite cultural beliefs that women are less capable than the opposite sex.

Vegetable farming and animal husbandry not only presents an opportunity for income generation, but it also plays a crucial role in our community’s economy, food security, and skill development. We hope that our efforts bear fruit in reducing the number of women who are victimized by human trafficking.
