Mei, a diligent single mother, is busy working at home and in the fields everyday in order to support her daughter in school. Her daughter is in her first year of high school. Her main source of income is through farming, but the wheat, rapeseed and potatoes she grows are only enough for their own consumption. As such, she goes up to the mountains to dig for caterpillar fungus in summer. Unfortunately, the income from digging caterpillar fungus is not stable.
When Mei shared about the additional livelihood she received from Pigs for Poverty Program, she could not conceal her joy at the thought of providing a better future for her daughter where she will be able to finish school and go to college.
“I was extremely happy and grateful when I received two piglets 8 months ago. I feed them carefully every day by following the trainer’s advice, and I always provide them with a clean and dry pigsty. Now that my piglets are grown up, they will breed 12 to 18 piglets in several months, and I look forward to it. Raising pigs allows me to take care of farming and generate extra income at home, and I am confident now that I will be able to support my daughter’s education. Thank you for helping me!”
