Beetsang Mo students are loving their new books – thanks SWIS

Beetsang Mo Village Primary School is a private school established in the 70s. This remote school has little funding support and very few resources for students and teachers. The students only had their text book to learn from and very little other learning stimulation. One of the teachers told us, “Our school doesn’t have a library or any additional books for the students to read. We [the teachers] also rarely have the opportunity to attend any training to advance our capacity. Students’ parents and families don’t understand the importance of education as most of them are illiterate”.

Beetsang Mo Library (7)BUT, a lot changed a few weeks ago.  350 books, tables, chairs and library shelves arrived at the school thanks to wonderful funding from Shenzhen based Shen Wai International School (SWIS). This was made possible thanks to amazingly creative fundraising activities organized by the students, staff and parents of SWIS – all driven by a desire to make life that little bit better for these students. Teachers at Beetsang Mo Village Primary school tell us that things have instantly and dramatically changed. Students now have books to read that are colorful, stimulating and fun. They can see students imaginations expanding upon finding so many interesting ideas and stories in these new books. Even for short breaks during classes the students now choose to read books instead of causing trouble outside. They love to tell each other the stories they have read from the books. The teachers are so surprised and very excited to see the students engaging in learning and wanting to know more. There are now even competitions between the students sharing what they have read and learned from the books. The students also enjoy spending time in the beautiful new reading room after school as it now has lovely tables and chairs and is a place where everyone must keep quiet. The teachers have renewed energy to teach as they can see the students excited about learning.

Beetsang Mo Library (3)Beetsang Mo Library (6)This is such a wonderful outcome for this school of 78 students and their teachers. Village parents are now seeing the value of education and how it makes a difference in the lives of their children. Thank you students, staff and parents of Shen Wai International School for making all this possible.
