240 women receive much needed “Healthy Village” help

Over 240 Mongolian women participated in the Healthy Village Program earlier this year – 1 of 10 individual township Healthy Village programs implemented by one of Captivating’s program partners – SHAMTSE Charity. After the training session, over 180 women also received a medical health check throughout the two days the medical team were in the township.

During the health checks, the doctor discovered that many women had liver problems. This seemed to be mostly influenced by diet. Though not all the women who received health checks had serious health problems, there were many women who had health concerns due to poor hygiene and a lack in disease prevention knowledge. The local women’s volunteer group attended the training and are planning to conduct the same training to more women from other villages around. These women will become leaders in their region. We are so excited to see this program having a lasting impact on the women in such remote locations.

Tserang tells her story to Carrie from Shamtse, our project partner.

Tserang is a 45 years old single mother. Her husband passed away when she was 36 years old. Tserang’s children are grown, married and moved away from the village. Tserang’s eldest daughter passed away from liver failure many years ago, leaving Tserang alone to raise her grandson, who is now 17 years and is at middle school. Her grandson has needed three operations because of his poor health. “I have tried my best to take care of him and we have sold everything in the family to keep him well. We have no livestock and we have no house now. I am living in the county town by renting a little room there to take care of my grandson while sewing some bags and shoes to earn some money.” Tserang received much needed medication and now understands personal hygiene and practical ways to help keep her and her grandson well.

When the team were ready to leave, the village leader came to express their thanks. “Thank you so much for coming to our place. Your program is the most urgent thing for these local women.”

Thank you to Zuru for supporting the Healthy Village Program in this township location. Your support will have a lasting impact on these women.
